… In Omole’s honour

NOTHING gladdens the heart as much as when your accomplishments are celebrated right in the presence of you and your family. This played out recently when captains of industry, politicians, traditional rulers, academics, family members, friends and alumni oYou +1'd this publicly. Undof Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, gathered for a dinner in honour of Professor Bamitale Omole, Vice Chancellor of the school.

   Organised by Chief Gboyega Fatimehin, the high society event held at Golden Gate Restaurant, Ikoyi, Lagos, had Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State and his wife in attendance.

  Oba Oluwole Adebolaju Adugbole III, Oloye of Oye, said, the fate of Nigerian universities is in the hands of the elite. “If the graduands of each school could contribute N10, 000 yearly for the upliftment of their alma mater, it would go a long way to solving most of the problems facing tertiary institutions.”

  Speaking on the new VC, Mimiko, said, “with the experiences Prof. Omole had garnered in the private and public sector as well as the backings of his friends and colleagues, he would surely take the school to its desired height.”

   The governor informed that there are over 33,000 Nigerians studying diverse courses in different universities across the globe and their parents spend over N75 billion yearly on them.

  “ If our schools are what they should be, this huge sum would have contributed to developing our economy. If we must be like other developed economies of the world, then education must be given a pride of place; it is for this reason that I am building mega schools, restructuring the curriculum and paying great attention to ICT,” he said.

IN response to the speeches, the elated don promised to make OAU among top class universities in the world, where parents from across the globe would bring their children.
